Well, Hi Guys!
I have now started working on my Process book and this time it is actually gonna be a junkyard of sketches i.e visuals, photography and only a few words.

It then lists the points which according to my module guide i should have been working on and researching about in the field of area .....

I also listed a few questions which i could generally ask the people of that place.

So this is how i have tried to  go about Shankar market in my log book.

Its all about shankar market

Hy guys !
Today i would be telling you all about my research area that is shankar market.

Introduction to Shankar market

Shankar Market is an old, well laid out, consumer friendly market that lies sprawled in the heart of Delhi. Not many would be aware about this market, which has been there in Central Delhi ever since pre-independence years. Located right opposite to the M-block of Connaught Place, Shankar Market is the biggest market of fabrics and ethnic wear. This market specializes in textiles and everything revolving around clothes.
This market lazily wakes up at 11 AM & peak hours are from 2 PM-4 PM, shutting down at 8:30 PM. Sundays are off in Shankar market.  It may not be a brand savvy market, however,
The stupendous quality and designs of the fabrics sold here cannot be found at any place in the city. There are more than a hundred shops in this seven-corridor market about 53 stalls & 53 commercial flats on the upper floor. Situated right in the center of Delhi, it is one of the most easily accessible markets.
The shops are arranged numerically in contiguous little blocks and are identified by their numbers rather than their names.

History
For the designers, it is a magic wand that gives them the most exceptional designs.
for women it is a key to the most fashionable wardrobe but most importantly, it is a market from the colonial era that stands as an insignia of the past.

Shankar Market was set up only a couple of years before the independence. For more than 65-68 years, the market has been operating silently because of being overlooked by the glitz of Connaught Place.

What does it Offer
Shankar Market has a plethora of fabrics available in all sorts of colours, designs, texture or price. Cotton, Spun, Georgette, Silk, Nets or the most rare type of fabrics are easily available at affordable prices. There is a huge variety of colours and prints at offer. One can get all the latest fads in this fashion boulevard. The shopkeepers impress you with huge “thaans’ of materials which are suitable for both dress designing and upholstery.
Apart from the fabrics, there a good number of shops selling exclusive dupattas and cotton handlooms. One must visit the Lucknow Sewa Emporium for very beautiful Chikankari Kurtas with intricate embroidery. There are even a few shops for Bridal trousseau.

Tailors and Dyers are also available at your footstep so as to provide you with all the convenience while buying materials. You can even get your purchase couriered to your home.

Shankar Market is also popular for its exclusive book stores which have been functional for a few decades now. These book stores are known for their impeccable range of books also available on rent. You can even sell your old books at good prices here

. As for the foodies, there are ample eateries nearby to satisfy your gastronomical needs. So you can shop till you drop and quickly manage to refill yourself again!
The morning breakfast facility especially a boon for office goers.

For all the Diet conscious people we have got something for you too!

The Other Visit!

Hy Guys.....
It was 9th of march and time for our second visit to shankar market. Hopefully we went there with great enthusiasm and thought as many questions as we could to ask from the people at shankar market but at times hopes are too high to be achieved i guess....
Well i won't say people over there did not help us, No! but because the market is always running busy and crowded with mostly ladies trying out clothes, shopping, eating street food, bargaining with the shopkeepers, making the tailors understand what is required etc people could not really answer our questions. Also because many of the workers are new and doesn't have much idea about the market.
Here are a few more pictures of the market clicked on the next visit and along with that we were supposed to search a particular area/ object/shop which needs some design interventin acccording to us (micro area research) which is why you might see a few not so happening pictures of shankar market too.

Here You go ..........
